Ellen Page Covers "Flare" Mag and Talks About Coming Out

Award winning actress Ellen Page came out as a lesbian back in February, and she’s glad that she did it. Page landed the cover of the June issue of “Flare” Magazine, looking flawless might I add, and spoke about coming out and her reason for doing so.

“The more time went by, the more something just happened, an Oh my god — I want to love someone freely and walk down the street and hold my girlfriend’s hand,” Ellen said.

The 27-year-old actress came out to her parents when she was 19, and expected a lot of hate and negative criticism for coming out to the public. To her surprise, she was met with overwhelming support and positivity. “I was very nervous. I was very nervous, yes. Yes. Very, very nervous. Yes. I was emotional, deeply, deeply emotional,” she said. “You think you’re in a place where you’re all I’m thrilled to be gay, I have no issues about being gay anymore, I don’t feel shame about being gay, but you actually do. You’re just not fully aware of it. I think I still felt scared about people knowing. I felt awkward around gay people; I felt guilty for not being myself.”

Of course, there were some negative Nancys, but in situations like this, positivity always trumps negativity.

Read Ellen’s full interview for “Flare” Magazine when the issue hits newsstands on May 12th.
