Music Gift of the Week: Regina Spektor

Submitted by: Sabrina Phillips - The art of music to me is a gift in itself. Music’s existence and its effect on life is a blessing. I find that music often presents me with my own personal gift though; a new amazing piece of work to add to my playlist. This week I stumbled across an amazing album called What We Saw From The Cheap Seats by Regina Spektor.

This album is lovely and reminds me of a soundtrack that I love for a movie called Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging. This album is full of love, honesty, and sweetness. It makes me smile and I love when music does that. Regina’s vocals are remarkable and sound a little different on each song and improve as the album progresses. In some songs her voice is light and airy which I adore. In other songs her voice is full and powerful.

Just like her voice, the songs are just as different. For song after song I smiled and felt like I was floating on a cloud and then this one song came on and it actually made me tear up. Ballads (Boyz II Men excluded) don’t make me cry usually because there’s something detached about it to me. There are so many songs that present this message that I feel I should cry over but I don’t feel a connection to the singer whatsoever. This album is different though the connection is there on this album on every song, you can feel that her heart and soul is in her music and what she’s singing, as it should be.

This phenomenal album was exactly what I needed this week, hopefully it can be the same for you. Check the album out here.
